Desiree BalfourChoral Director
Desiree is in the third year of her terminal degree program (Doctorate of Musical Arts) in the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA and was named as the inaugural Paul and Barbara Bent Choral Fellow for meritorious achievement within her discipline.
In 2016-17 she was the first Assistant Conductor Fellow for Vox Femina, Los Angeles where, in addition to her performance duties, she was pivotal in launching the organization's youth outreach program.
Prior to that Desiree was the among the initial music directors and department heads working as a Choral Director and Classical Guitar Instructor at Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts (Grand Arts), in Los Angeles.
A list of some of her accomplishments: Three time Honor Choir Director; Festival Adjudicator-Choral; Multi-media Songwriter's Showcase founder (at VAPA); President of Los Angeles Secondary Music Teacher's Association; Long-term ambassador at Little Kids Rock; Symposium Host, Summit Director, and Guitar Educator awardee of Guitar Foundation of America; wide-ranging partnerships with the Los Angeles Master Chorale; Collaborator in Cortines Oratorio Project through Los Angeles Master Chorale's "Voices Within"; Founder and publisher of Los Angeles Unified School District's Music Education Handbook; Master Teacher for student teachers from three Universities; MM in Choral Conducting. Desiree also has taught and directed: Vocal Jazz, Rock Band, Women's Chorus, Mixed Chorus, & Classical Guitar. At UCLA Desiree has thrice served as a choir master for the opera department and has worked as a conductor with the UCLA Symphony for two quarters.
